Cuantos de ustedes sabían que hay gente que se roba las flores de los panteones? Yo ya había escuchado de esto antes, pero me imaginaba que era una cosa de ves en cuando. La verdad es que hay gente que lo hace con mucha frecuencia aqui en Uvalde. Al hablar con las autoridades me informaron que una persona que es sorprendidad maltratando las tumbas o robándose las flores podría ser castigada de acuerdo. Acaso las flores del panteón valen la pena de la vergüenza de ser descubiertas? Les urjo a todos esos ofensores que tengan mas respeto a nuestros difuntos y a sus seres queridos. Por favor respeten los panteones. Si los edificios pudieran hablar... No seria bonito si de alguna manera nos podíamos comunicar con los ciudadanos de Uvalde que vivieron en 1890 para , asi compartir con ellos la alegría de revivir aquellos dias? La celebración de Navidad en la Casa de Opera fue un triunfo completo y nos dio a todos un sentimiento nostaligico. Mucho a cambiado y existen hoy mucha gente buena que están haciendo que sigan ocurriendo eventos hermosos en nuestra ciudad. Les deseamos nuestros mejores deseos a todos los que han trabajado tanto para hacer un sueno una realidad. No estoy satisfecha... Aunque el Juez Jerry White diga que no hay nada que pueda hacer la Corte de Comisionados de Uvalde sobre esa proclamación que prohíbe la cazeria en los rios públicos. Yo pienso que todavía ellos debían de averiguar si esa ley es valida e insister que el Condado de Uvalde sea excluido. Si los rancheros tienen problemas con los que entran a sus propiedades y les causan daños, pueden valerse de las leyes que ya existen para esas ofensas--- y no usar una falsa proclamación. Entonces me pongo a imaginarme todas las cosas peores que le han ocurrido a este mi periódico— como si se nos estuvieran viniendo encima con un aire muy fuerte. Parece que tembelequeo un poco, pero tengo esa “pared” que yo me imagino son mis muchos, muchos amigos; el progreso que hemos hecho en credibilidad como periódico, en aumentar el apoyo de Mexicanos y Anglos igualmente-- personas que antes no nos conocían y desconfiaban de nosotros; mejoramientos en la calidad de nuestros reportes, y mejoramientos hacia un negocio estable y responsable. Esta “pared” nos proteje de aquellos ancianos que mantienen la creencia que la nueva generación no sabe lo que hace—o esos anglos que piensan que los Mexicanos no debemos poseer un periódico; o los malechores que ven en la prensa una amenaza personal; y asi todas esas otras confrontaciones por las que todavía tendremos que pasar. I wonder how many of you are aware that some persons Uvalde go to the cemetaries and steal fresh flowers from the graves. I have heard of this several times but I thought it was an off and on thing. The truth is some people do it very often here. Checking with local authorities I found out that a person caught vandalizing the graves or stealing flowers can be arrested and charged accordingly. Are flowers from the cemetary worth the embarrassment of being discovered? I urge the offenders to have more regard for our deceased and their loved ones. Please respect our cemetaries. If Buildings could talk... Wouldn’t it be nice if somehow we could communicate with the citizens of Uvalde that lived here in 1890 so that we could share with them the joy of reliving those days gone by? The Christmas at the Opera House celebration here was a complete success and gave us all a nostalgic feeling. Rodriguez Estimada Editora, Escribo esta carta para llamar la atención a un abuso que esta ocurriendo en nuestros panteones y que no puedo comprender. El lunes de la semana pasada le lleve unos flores naturales Navideñas a la tumba de mi hijo, Danny Sanchez. El domingo volví al pateon y las flores ya no estaban. En otra ocasión solamente encontré las flores mal tratadas, pero esta bes hasta se las llevaron. Las flores que yo le llevo a mi hijo es el único regalo que yo le puedo dar. Como puede haber gente con un corazón tan negro que se atreve a maltratar la tumba de mi hijo y robarle sus flores? Sera posible que estas personas no tienen un ser querido que quieran tanto como yo a mi hijo, y les doliera tanto un atrevimiento como este? Tengo una idea de quien puede ser y nada mas quiero decir que si podemos probar quien es culpable, los llevare a corte y tendrán que pagar la multa debida. I get a little shaky but behind me there is a tali cushioned wall which I imagine to be my many, many friends, the progress we have made in credibility, in gaining support from Mexicans and Anglos that didn't know us and distrusted us before; improvements in the quality of our reporting and improvements as a stable and responsible business, "this ’’wall” protects us from the old timers who still hold on to the tradition that the new generation doesn’t have any sense- or the many older anglos who believe Mexians should not own a newspaper--- or the wrongdoers who see the press as a threat; and all the other challenges we face. But of course we know the Lord is with us and with Him on our side for guidance and strength what elese could we possibly want?
