Wagner, Jr. from Round Top, second place; James Baker from Center Point, third place; and Kenny Coyote Band Wins Third In State The Uvalde Coyote Band was selected the third top 3-A band in Texas this past week at the Texas Bandmasters Association Convention in San Antonio. A panel of five top rated authorative judges from Texas are selected by the Texas Music Educators Association to judge the taped recordings. This panel listens to each Regions’ selected 3-A band to deter- Ay € ..V A large group of concerned citizens met last Tuesday evening at El Milagro Nutrition Center to discuss the need for a clinic in Uvalde. Representatives from El Centro de Salud of Crystal City offered their help to the group in applying for a similar medical ^services program in Uvalde. Mrs. Luz Gutierrez director of Centro de Salud told the group her clinic received many patients from Uvalde but could not continue to help them because the clinic is funded for Zavala County residents only. Uvalde citizens are urged to attend a workshop this Sunday, August 12 at the Reading Room of the Civic Center that will be the first step in establishing the clinic here. There are 21 Regions in the state. Earlier in this school year following U.I.L. contest each Region selected their own 3-A representative, is listened to by the five judges, twice. Two years ago Uvalde was selected fourth. There are approximately 170 3-A bands in the state of Texas. Each band is required to play one march and two concert numbers which have been recorded at a public performance. Also held last Sunday only, was Walt Richburg’s world famous washer pitch in conjunction with the Tractor Pull. The team of Ernest Taylor and Dave Rankin of Uvalde took first place standing as they did during the Cactus Jack World Championship Washer Pitch.
