Si quieren aumentar su conocimiento sobre la agencia estatal Parks and Wildlife Department, (la agencia que controla y proteje los parques públicos y los animales campestres y las leyes de cazeria), lean un articulo en ingles en la revista Outdoor Life de este mes. El Articulo se intitula “El Juego de los Gatos Gordos de Texas y su introducción dice asi: “El Departamento de Parks and Wildlife esta sufriendo de un personal profesional demoralizado, un continuo cambio de nuevos directores y unas prioridades podridas que cuidan los intereses de los grandes ranchos al costo de buen manejo. Mucho dinero y mala política están detras de todo esto, mientras que el cazador de deporte paga la cuenta. Richard Stares es el autor y el nos ilumina hacia la causa de los problemas que nosotros aqui en el condado de Uvalde hemos tenido con las leyes de cazeria. Sabían ustedes que el oficial Bill Warden, el que le hizo los cargos a siete hombres de Uvalde por cazar palomas en los rios del Condado de Uvalde, no recibió el aviso de el cambio en la ley tocante la cazeria de pájaros migratorios (como las palomas) hasta en diciembre, 1979, después de que los acusados habían sido juzgados en la corte, una notificación que Waldrop debía de haber recibido en septiembre! Cuando Waldrop la recibió, el llamo a Austin y asi fue se vino aclarando que la ley en la cual el se había fundado ya no existia. La tension que broto en nuestra comunidad y que fue creada por alguien en el Parks and Wildlife Department que se le olvido enviarle el aviso al oficial Waldrop. Pero esa no es la única falta que tiene la agencia. Lean ese articulo y luego investigen por si mismos como nos afecta localmente. Vamos a Votar! Chihuahua, gente, si no empezamos a votar por mejores representantes en nuestro gobierno vamos a seguir pagando el costo de nuestra decidía. Necesitamos mejores legisladores por todas partes. Como nosotros seguimos permitiendo que nos roben nuestros derechos y abusen de nuestra paciencia es verdaderamente increíble. Y todo pasa porque nosotros no tomamos el tiempo para conocer los candidatos y luego no salimos a votar. Cada elección nos deja un largo efecto! Connally se parecía mucho a Nixon.. Vi el primer programa politico de John Connally en la television la semana pasada y me dio tanto coraje con la forma que el dinero de los ricos trata de blanquear y darle lustre a un hombre que nomas no puede verse honesto. Me recordaba constantemente que este hombre es el que estuvo en el escándalo de la leche hace apenas unos anos, y en otros asuntos poco obscuros, y ahora se ha puesto como candidato a presidente del país. La imagen se nublaba constantemente en mi mente y yo veía la cara y escuchaba la voz de Richard Nixon, y en vez de enojarme decidí que mientras que Connaly siguiera pareciéndose y hablando tanto como hablaba Richard Nixon, el no tiene chanza de ganar. Rodriquez Viva Ramsey Muniz! Lei con gran alegría que Ramsey Muniz, pronto saldra en libertad. Muniz fue el candidato a gobernador de Texas en 1972 bajo el Partido Raza Unida. El es un gran ejemplo de como la justicia en Texas aplica todo el peso de la ley a las minorías, y excusa, perdona y le da sentencias muy lijeras a los ofensores anglos y ricos. Hay mucha gente aqui y atraves de todo el estado—principalmente el Juez John Wood (oh, que ojala descanse en paz ahora(— que cargan en sus conciencias la tragedia de Ramsey Muniz. El (Muniz) huyo a Mexico como Mario Cantu huyo a Europa porque ellos sabían que el Juez WTood tenia este punto de vista sobre la justicia— el de castigar pesadamente a los Mexico-Americanos que protestan contra un gobierno injusto. Ellos sabían que no tenían ninguna chanza con el Juez Wood. Yo me puedo imaginar muy bien como se siente el ser considerado un radical, un activista y estar en manos de una poderosa corte, que es manejada por hombres que piensan que es su deber mantener el sistema tradicional de discriminación en nuestro estado. Yo estuve presente en varias cortes del Juez Wood y hablo con experiencia. En el piso del mismo cuarto en el cual escribo estas lineas (en la oficina de El Uvalde Times), todabia se ven rastros de tinta roja en el piso de la palabras Viva Muntz! en donde yo y mis amigas pintamos un enorme letrero para cuando vino Ramsey Muniz como candidato a gobernador. En mi corazón su único crimen fue de ser un líder de campeón de nuestra gente, un sonador en que con determinación si podíamos cambiar la vida de los Mexico-Americanos en Texas. Que lastima que mucha gente nuestra misma gente esta tan ciega que no comprende y aprecia lo que lideres como Muniz trataban de hacer por nosotros. Esta gente con gusto acepta los frutos del movimiento chicano, mejores trabajos, mejores beneficios, y luego se voltean y critican y se admiran de los lideres chicanos que alzaron su nivel de vivir. Seamos mas comprensivos antes de criticar. The Committee recognizes the extra effort put on by Mr. Manuel Castillo at the beginning to get all the signatures together for the petition presented to the County Commissioners Court. Mr. Castillo says, Read all about it If you want to gain some knowledge about our state’s Parks and Wildlife Department, just read an article in “Outdoor Life’’ in this month’s issue. The article is entitled “The Texas Fat Cat Game” and its introduction reads: “The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is suffering from a demoralized professional staff, a merry go round of new directors and a warped set of priorities that takes care of big-ranch interests at the expense of good management. Big money and bad politics are behind it all, while the Texas sportsman pays the bill.” Richard Starnes is the author and he sheds light on the source of the problems we have been having in Uvalde County. Did you know that Game Warden Bill Waldrop, who was the one to file charges on seven Uvalde men for hunting dove on the riverbeds of Uvalde County, did not receive the change of the proclamation on hunting migratory birds until December, 1979, after the men here had gone to trial, a notification that Waldrop should have received in September! When Waldrop finally received it, he called Austin and thus the change in the hunting laws became effective here. The tension that erupted in our community was created by someone in the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department who forgot to send important information to our game warden. But that is not the only fault with the agency. Read all about it and check things out for yourself. Let’s vote! Golly, people, if we don’t start voting ourselves some better government representatives we’re going to continue to pay for our apathy. We need better legislators everywhere. How we continue to let ourselves be shortchanged and abused is really incredible. And it all happens because we don’t take the time to know the candidates and then don’t show up to vote. Every election has an everlasting effect on us.! Connally looked like Nixon... I watched some of John Connally’s first political program on TV last week and became so irritated at the way big money tries to whitewash and polish a man that just cannot come through as an honest man. I kept remembering that this man was associated in that milk scandal and several other affairs and here he is putting himself up for president. The image kept blurring with the face and voice of Richard Nixon and instead of getting mad I decided that as long as Connally kept looking and talking like Richard Nixon, he doesn’t stand a chance. Viva Ramsey Muniz! I read with great happiness that Ramsey Muniz is a prime example of howjustice in Texas is applied with full punishment allowed under the law for the minorities, and excuses, pardons, and light sentences for anglo and rich offendors. There are many people around here and across the state— namely Judge John Wood, (Oh, may he rest in peace now)—who carry on their conscience the tragedy of Ramsey Muniz. Judge Wood had this view on justice- to punish Mexican-Americans who protested unfair government. They knew they didn’t stand a chance with Judge Wood. I can imagine what it is to be listed as a radical, an activist and to be in the hands of a mighty court of law, run by men who believe it is their duty to uphold the traditional discriminatory way of life in our state. I sat in the courtroom of Judge John Wood several times so I speak from experience. On the floor of the room I am typing I can still see traces of red paint where I wrote a large Viva! where my friends and I painted a sign for Ramsey Muniz when he came to Uvalde as a gubernatorial candidate. In my heart his only crime was to be a champion of our people, a dreamer that with determination we could improve the living environment of Mexican-Americans in Texas. It is too bad that so many times even our own people are too blind to understand and to appreciate what leaders like Muniz tried to do for us. These people gladly accept the fruits of the chicano movement, then turn around and look down on those very chicano leaders that “lifted” their livelihood. 5LAPSTIY 1980, McNaught Synd.
