CARTA A LA EDITORA,
Pase por Uvalde y compre su periódico lo leyi todo y encontré muchos errores en español como por ejemplo donde dice de investigaar los record no se dice investigar se dice envestigar en español no se dice records, se dice antesdentes tampoco se dice los Morenos cuando se trata de padre e hijo, se dice el Sr. Moreno y su hijo. Conclusion, no se escribe conclucion con s se escribe con c y con acento en la o, departamento siempre se escribe con D., pedirá uds. escribieron pidera como por ejemplo uds. dicen con los policías, se dice la policía y muchos errores yo no critico solamente trato de alindarlos yo tuve un periódico en Chicago en español, se llamo El Mensajero y si pudiera volviera hacer mi periódico.
Bueno les deseo mucho éxito y que sigan adelante porque verdaderamente esta bueno su periódico solamente que no saben escribir correcto el español. Mucha suerte y Dios los bendiga.

"Lawyering Skills" on City Council
Dear Editor:
I had the pleasure of attending a city council meeting on April 11, 1978. I usually do not make it a point of attending, but on this occasion 1 had the time and thought that it might be interesting.
I arrived when Mr. Emmett Harris was making his closing remarks to the city council on behalf of his client, Gary Dawson. I listened with great intensity to understand what it was that was being discussed. After a couple of minutes it was clear that the issue being discussed was about the incident that took place at the city jail on March 24.
Personally I haven't really gotten too involved in the “police brutality” issue in Uvalde so as far as having a position on the topic, I don’t.
But what I want to comment on with this letter is what seemed to me to be a clear abuse of intelligence on the part of Mr. Harris. I m speaking of his abuse of his “lawyering skills” on the city council and on the public present. I’m not saying that you have to be super smart to be a lawyer, but I am saying that those who are learned in law should not use those skills and talents to complicate and confuse an issue that the city council has been tyring to deal with in an honest and fair manner.
I think that with the seriousness of the problem as it its, this attempt by Mr. Harris to confuse the issue didn t help anybody, not even his client.

Dear Editor:
On Tuesday April 11, 1978 the City Council had it’s regularly scheduled meeting and proceeded to exclude any public participation in the one topic of special community interest: the firing of Gary George Dawson by the Chief of Police.
Several times during the “public hearing” (as Mayor Cain referred to it) members of COPA asked to be recognized and be allowed to speak. Each time they were refused. Our champions of the city government would not entertain or accept input or participation by the citizens of this community in the discussion of a very serious problem in Uvalde: police abuse.
Several things come to mind as a result of this meeting:
1)	Dave Howard, a city councilman and candidate for Coutny Judge and an open solicitor of the Chicano vote did not even attend this meeting of such importance of the Mexican American community.
2)	Bill Mitchell, a city councilman and Dave Howard’s campaign manager, expressed what appeared to be a strong sentiment in favor of re-instating Dawson. As Dave Howard's campaign manager I wonder whose viewpoint he was representing.
3)	Mayor Cain made a strong effort and -ed in getting Chief Chisum to change his previous statemeni mat COPA had been instrumental in bringing pressure to bear upon the Chief which
forced him to fire Dawson. Mayor Cain repeatedly asked: the decision was yours alone, no outside pressure involved. Right!!!
4)	But finally the admission by everyone that GARY DAWSON HAS -A PROBLEM
was somewhat satistying. The complaint here is that the “problem” was not specified. Well I'll tell you what it is: he likes to beat up on prisoners, particularly Mexican American prisoners.
It is satisfying to know that as a young organization we have succeeded in accomplishing a great victory.
EMERGENCY ENERGY HELP FROM COMMUNITY COUNCIL AVAILABLE
The Community Council of Southwest Texas has implemented an Emergency Conservation Program to assist the elderly, migrants, disabled, and low-income persons with energy related problems. According to Josué George Garza, Jr.. Executive Direcotr of the Community Council, a total of S41.000.00 has been granted the agency by Community Service Administration (C.S.A.) to assist qualified participants in Uvalde. Sabinal. Batesville, La Pryor. Crystal City, Brackettville. Campwood, and Leakey.
Prospective participants may apply at the various area office of the Community Council.

Un servicio de oración tuvo lugar en la Capilla Esparza y los servicios funerales fuvieron lugar el Sabado, 15 de Abril en el Templo Christiano Church con el Rev. Archie Martinez, y el entierro fue en el Hillcrest Cemetery, bajo la dirección de Mike Esparza Funeral Home.
