The filing of candidates for posts in Uvalde County for the Democratic Primary is now over and now we have a view of who our leaders could be. I congratulate all those persons who came forward and listed themselves as candidates. It is a job a lot of us shy away from but which is so important to each one of us. Let us all take the time to listen to their reasons for seeking office and really support the ones we belie* in. Our future is in their hands. Congratulations... To the parents, relatives and friends of the candidates for Valentine Queen of Sacred Heart School. A lot of people do not realize how important this event is to the school and how unselfishly these parents work to make possible to continuance of a very special educational center. May God bless all of you who worked so hard and who give so much so that everyone can benefit from your efforts. Congratulations, too, to the officers of the Sacred Heart PTO who organize one project after another. I know what it is to be involved with one activity after another, so I realize the responsiblities you have and I admire the dedication which you continue to inspire. A very special project... Parents of Uvalde’s sixth graders may want to take notice of the special Reading Is Fundamental program that the Junior Service League is conducting at Benson Elementary School. Reading is the very basis of a child s education. There is no limit to the educational development of a student if he enjoys reading. Thank you, ladies of the Junior Service League. The fruits of your work is inmeasurable. Thank you for taking the time to help our students towards a better education. Stay in school... Regardless of the shortcomings I might see in our educational systiem I still encourage our young people to stay in school. As a business person I recieve a lot of calls from young people looking for a job. I always feel' sad when I see someone that could be capable of a good office job not be able to get a job because they didn't finish high school or because they cannot type. For those that are already out of school I say- “Go back to school. Both the public schools and our Southwest Texas Junior College have adult basic education — and its free! It isn’t too late to start, and for those who are thinking of quitting school— ask yourself if you are prepared to earn a living. Nowdays both husband and wife must work in order to make it”. The choice is yours to make and remember that you, too, must bear the consequences. Be smart, stay in school, go back to school, prepare yourself educationally- for a more rewarding life. Feed Back.... There was one person that came by in defense of Coach John Ferrara after our comments in this column -two weeks ago. I offered to print his comments, but he decided not to pursue it. In several other\calls and in . some gatherings I attended, however, most comments supported the idea that Uvalde should say good-by to Coach Ferrara. I heard of some more cases where other good athletes I didn’t know about had quit rather than accept the humiliation this man caused them. You know, I can understand that an athlete must be psychologically conditioned to succeed, but from the complaints I heard, Ferrara’s demands were beyond reasonable judgemente. Again this is a problem that belongs with the school board, and as long the board continues to “shield” itself from the people and discourages their presence at its meetings, complaints such as these will continue to damage our community. La registracion de candidatos para gobierno en el Condado de Uvalde Demócrata ya se termino y ahora tenemos una vista de las personas que podrían llegar a ser nuestros lideres. Yo felicito a todas esas personas que se pusieron al frente registrándose como candidatos. Es un trabajo del cual muchos de nosotros nos retiramos pero el cual es muy importante para todos nosotros. Vamos todos a tomar el tiempo para escuchar sus razones por las cuales decidieron buscar sus puestos y vamos a apoyar a los que nosotros les tenemos confianza. El futuro esta en sus manos. Felicitaciones.... A los padres, familiares y amigos de las candidatas a Regina de Corazones de la Escuela Sagrado Corazon. Muchos de nosotros no comprendemos lo importante que es este evento para la escuela y que desinteresadamente estos padres trabajan para hacer posible la continuación de un centro educacional muy especial. Que Dios los bendiga a todos los que trabajaron tanto y que dieron tanto para que todos nos beneficiemos de sus esfuerzos. Felicitaciones, también, a los oficiales del PTO de Sagrado Corazon, quien organiza una actividad tras otra. Yo se lo que es estar envuelta en una actividad tras otra, asi que yo comprendo las responsabilidades que ustedes tienen y admiro la dedicación que ustedes continúan inspirando. Un proyecto muy especial.... Padres de los alumnos de sexto grado tal vez quedran tomar nota del programa muy especial llamado Leer es Fundamental (y divertido) que el Junior Service League esta patrocinando en la Escuela Benson. El leer es la basis de la educación del nino. No hay limite a su desarrollo educacional si al alumno le gusta leer. Gracias, damitas del Junior Service League. La fruta de su trabajo es inmedible. Gracias por tomar el tiempo para ayudar a nuestros alumnos hacia una mejor educa-cmn Respuestas.... Hubo una persona que vino a visitarnos en defensa del Coach John Ferrara después de mis comentarios sobre el en esta columna hace dos semanas. Yo ofrecí publicar sus comentarios, pero el decidió no hacerlo. En varias otras llamadas y en varias reuniones los comentarios en mayoría apoyaron la idea que Uvalde debería decirle adios al Coach Ferrara. Me di cuenta de mas puestos de del partido casos de jovenes que dejaron de jugar pelota a causa de la humillación que este hombre les causo. Yo puedo comprender que un atleta debe esta sicológicamente preparado para triunfar, pero según las quejas que yo escuche, las exigencias de Ferrara eran mas aya de lo razonable. De nuevo les digo que este problema pertenece ser atendido por la directiva escolar, y mientras que la directiva se “proteja’' para que los padres no puedan ir ante ellos, las quejas como estas continuaran dañando a nuestra comunidad. Quedense en la escuela... A pesar de las quejas que yo tenga en nuestro systema educacional, yo insisto a nuestros jovenes que se queden en la escuela. Como persona de negocio yo recibo muchas llamadas de jovenes buscando trabajo. Yo siempre me siento triste cuando alguien que yo se pudiera hacer buen trabajo de oficina no obtener el trabajo porque no terminaron la escuela o porque no saben escribir en maquina. Para los que ya se salieron de la escuela les digo: “Regresen a la escuela. I ac escuelas publicas y el Southwest Texas Jr. College tienen programas de educación basica— y es gratis! Nunca es tarde para empezar, y para los que están pensando en salirse de la escuela- pregúntense si están listos para ganarse la vida. Ahora en dia los dosel marido y su esposa tienen que trabajar para alcanzar con los gastos. La decision es suya y recuerden que ustedes también sufrirán las consecuencias. Sean inteligentes. Quedense en la escuela, o regresen a la escuela, y prepárense educacionalmente— para una vida mas recompensadora.
