Linda Chavez practicing medicine, teaching at UCLA Dr. Linda Chavez is currently a partner/physician with the Southern California Medical Group in Downey, California. Chavez works in pediatric/adolescent medicine with newborn children and youth through the age of eighteen years. In addition to her daily load of patients at the Downey medical School Board Meeting Report By Allen Baxter The school board for the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District convened their meeting of February 4, 1992 at 7:30 p.m. During the audience to patrons portion, several people addressed the board with concerns over the growing number of sexual transmitted diseases and HIV cases among teenagers; the growing number of teenage pregnancies and abortions, and the economic burden on the public to assist teenage mothers with such Gonzales Know Candidates Pg. 20 ck --Remembering El Uvalde Times p center. Dr. Chavez is clinical instructor in pediatrics at the Harbor UCLA Medical Center. Students are from the UCLA Medical School and medical residents from the Harbor UCLA Medical Center. Dr. Chavez graduated from Uvalde High School in 1978 as class valedictorian and received costs as daycare while the mothers attend school. It was suggested to the board that an abstinence based sexual education program be adopted. The board was informed that New Braunfels Canyon had adopted a similar program. Over the course of three years, the number of teenage pregnancies had dropped from twenty two to three. With current sexual education practices the statistics continue to rise. The patrons reiterated throughout their her bachelor of arts degree in human biology from Stanford University, Palo Alto, California in 1982. Chavez was granted a doctor of medicine degree from Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts in 1986. Also during this portion of the meeting, Mr. Dick Wipple introduced VIPS(Volunteers In Public Schools) to help Uvalde children’s education. He offered further information on the subject upon request. Texas Public Schools Week was announced to be from March 1st through the 6th. The Chapter I/Migrant Parent Involvement Plan was discussed. More parent involvement was encouraged and tutorial programs for these children was discussed. Other actions that the board took consisted of approving the school district’s financial operation for the month of January 1992 submitting the Enrollment and Tax Office Report and extending discussion on approval of a bid for inspection/removal of an underground storage tank and installation of an approved tank.
