Mrs. Julia Guajardo of 229 Elizabeth and her children and nephews found themselves surrounded by the flooding waters of Cook Slough. The family suffered the loss of some furniture and floor damage to the home.

THE LEONA RIVER ON THE RISE AGAIN: This was the view to the north from the Highway 90 bridge last Tuesday morning. The recent clearing of the river bed caused rapid flow of the waters but created hazardous currents. The Uvalde Memorial Park and the city golf course on the southside were under water as a result.

THE CHARLES PLACE APARTMENTS faced near flooding as the Leona River overflowed its banks. The water did not enter the apartment complex but gave residents great concern.




La Sra. Julia Guajardo de 229 Calle Elizabeth y sus hijos y sobrinos se encontraron inundados por la creciente del Arroyo Cook Slough el martes por la manana. La familia sufrió perdidad de muebles y daños a los pisos de la casa.
LOS APARTAMENTOS CHARLES PLACE se escaparon milagrosamente de otra inundación al crecerse el Rio Leona. El agua no entro a los apartamentos pero causo momentos de angustia para los residentes.

El linóleo de los pisos y una ‘heater’ de agua que habia comprado reciente-ment fueron unas de las mas grandes perdidas aparte del susto.
La familia Guajardo reside en una linea de casas en donde la ciudad ha comprado el derecho para construir un canal de ochenta piez de ancho que sera parte del Proyecto Leona Watershed y que eliminara la amenaza de estas inundaciones. El canal empezaría desde la calle Ft. Clark hasta la Cárrete-

Magana returned to his home town. Ft. Worth to enter arquitectural work. Both expressed they had enjoyed working in Uvalde very much and would return to visit here often.

The Chamber of Commerce billboard told the story about the Cactus Jack Festival last weekend. Heavy rains inundated the Uvalde City Fairgrounds making it impossible for the celebration to take place. Chamber officials have taken advantage of the extension to add even more events to the festival and improving those already scheduled.

Some of these items include passive solar Jcollectors for heating homes and water, passive cooling deisgns, earth building materials, and the use of mesquite as fuel. These technologists will blend their knowledge with government resources from both the state and national level.

Camino Real Directors Sought
SAN ANTONIO-Nomin-ations from the public are now being accepted by the Camino Real Health Systems Agency for positions on the board of directors.
Migrant students and those whose families work in seasonal jobs may qualify in a summer employment and job counseling program at Southwest Texas Junior College.
According to Joe Barker, director of the summer program, recent high school graduates and first and second year college students are eligible providing they meet the employment criteria.

One third of the 30 member board is to undergo normally scheduled rotation during July. Of the 10 affected positions, six will be filled by consumers of health care.
