Club Issue ..THE MSaCAHjrpiCB c PAGE 9 ON YOUR MARKS-- tE^nie 5?ybal °f Eoosevelt high school (L.A.) clipped over the 3 3 hi-hurdles to chalk up the best time with a 15.3 mark. In the regulation hurdle race (3'6tt) Alec Fernandez of El Monte High School placed second In the San Gabriel Valley Meet being timed 5n 16.3. Centeno of the same school placed 5th. Alec Fernandez also leads m ohe 220 lows by stepping ovei* the barriers in 25.6. Zambrano of Roosevelt High, Los Angeles, has the best mark in the 180 low hard-les, clocked in 20.5, Villalobos of San Pedro High has the next best in 20.6, The high jump event again is weak with three fellows tied at 5*11 . Gomez of San Fernando; Valencia, Whittier; and Figueroa of Jefferson, L.A., all managed to clear this. The broad jump is a distant tickler in that two fellows constantly flirted around with 22 fe^t. Al Beltran of Roosevelt and Jim Castaneda of Garfield both put 21*10” of terra firma between the jumping and landing points. A little Glass B athlete showed up all the efforts of the Varsity jumpers in the pole vault. Salvador Guzman of Garfield (L.A.) showed up his big brothers by jack-knifing over 12'4'*, setting a new Eastern League ”B” record. Other outstanding vaulters were Manuel Benavidez of Garfield who vaulted 12*1” and Alonzo, Fremont, L.A., 11'6”. Peter Cerda, Alhambra High, leads the shotputters with a mark of 47’3” while Jim Peralta of Lincoln High (L.A.) puts out the 12 pounder, 45’3". The Relay, of course, is hardly ever an All-Paisano event, bub we shall mention that due greatly to the efforts of Louie Barreré, starter, and Bob Estavillo, anchor, that the San Diego ABO re? y team met such success. Their best time was 1:29.6, placing sec.j/x; in the State and nosed out by Compton in the Southern California Meet as well a's copping .various tilts. San Diego reversed the decision by defeating Compton in the Compton Invitational Meet. And there, "umble readers is Mexican youth's contribution to the field and track in California. We hope you'll notice that many of these marks are top-notch, and compare favorably with many sml.1 college runners. We also hope you'll notice what definite strides vre are making in showing others "we’ve got the stuff in us...." ......Felix Gutierrez
