It’s hard - to realize that we • as American-born Mexicans fail to see that we possess a rich colorful culture. That brought over by our parents from Mexico and the I one acquired living in the United States. Both are rich and are not incompatible. So why can't we take an interest in music, art, literature of our parental ancestors and combine it with the culture of the United States? Sometime ago I heard a man speak on the fact that we do not realize, speaking of Mexican youth, the beauty and appreciate much less our rich heritage.
He based this .on the fact that he had noticed that very few- young people cared for Mexican music. To a certain extent it is true and,I agreed with him but I pointed out to him that no special courses are taught in schools on any Latin-American history or affiliate subjects.
History is the basis of all things and It' s the one thing Mexican youth does not.have about Mexico. Perhaps if we studied a little more about Mexican history and art we could appreciate our rich cultural background that much more.
I told this to the speaker and he readily agreed with me. Not long ago I heard a conference of. the Pan-American Press Club and this fact was brought to life - that Americans know very little of Mexican and South American culture and history. They know a rumba and a tengo____but what about the

Well attended by the parents of many of those present was one of the contributions of the Pomona Regional Conference held May 26th at the Pomona Y.M.C.A.
Starting promptly at 2 p.m. on Sun dhy afternoon, thb Conference was opened by introductions of many o± those present, Mr. Pedro Rambeau of San Gabriel, principal speaker, stressed "Knowing yourself" and "the training yourself for it" Hi? inspirational talk served as an excellent medium for the following program. Ken Watson of Banning then spoke of the Mexican Youth movement In Spanish for the benefit of the parents present.
The main body was divided	into
four discussion groups which included the following topics: MEXICAN BOYS CLUB WORK, Gualberto Valadez; NEED FOR LEADERSHIP AMONG i NtexiCAN-AMERICANS, Stephen Reyes;
PROBLEMS FACING MEXICAN-AMERICAN GIRLS, Mrs. Mary Escudero; and HO?/ THE MEXICAN-AMERICAN GIRL CAN HELP the COMMUNITY, Miss Fernanda Contreras .
Reports of the discussion findings were given by secretaries of each group. Said findings including, more fellowship in school with the Anglo-American students, more confidence in oneself, the type of training for leadership among our people, and the various agencies that are willing to sponsor youth groups. Interesting was the discovery that a State Law says "schools are civic centers,"
