Judge Mitchell cites jail expansion need
(The following is a news release from the office of Uvalde County Judge Bill Mitchell )
The Uvalde County Commissioners Court has called a bond election to be held on Tuesday, November 5, 1991 to determine if $3,150,000 worth of bonds will be issued to expand and renovate the existing Uvalde County Jail.
Polling places will be open at 7 a.m. and will close at 7 p.m. for the election which will be held in conjunction with the state’s constitutional amendment election.

'The Uvalde County Jail has been in non-compliance of Texas jail standards since the creation of the Texas Commission on Jail Standards in 1975."commented Uvalde County Judge Bill Mitchell.
The Commission on Jail Standards has reviewed the Uvalde jail at each of its commission meetings held in Austin for the past fourteen months. Twice, during the past eight months, Uvalde County qfficials have appeared before the
commission and testified regarding minimum standards violations cited by the Commission on Jail Standards.
The Uvalde County Jail was set for mandatory closure by the Commission in July of this year as a result of an inspection by commission officials. The commission pointed out six violations which were of serious enough nature to have the facility totally closed if they were not corrected immediately.

Hoy Sabado 12 de Octubre sigue adelante el Festival Cactus Jack en Uvalde. Este año se ha hecho un gran esfuerzo para ofrecer actividades para todos los gustos. No se pierda la algeria y entretenimiento que la Camara de Comercio de Uvalde a organizado para los residentes de Uvalde y ciudades vecinas.
Después de numerosas actividades de deporte esta mañana empezando desde las 7:30, el evento mas sobresaliente


será el Desfile Cactus Jack a las 10 de la mañana. Termindandose el desfile seguirá la fiesta en el Parque Memorial de Uvalde y en el Centro Cívico. Habra música en vivo continuamente en dos foros, puestos de comida arte y juegos. También se lleva acabo el Fajita Cook-Off, Horseshoe and Washer pitch y torneo de volleyball.
Un baile country western tendrá lugar en el Purple Sage
