Pues.... no acabe de decir todo lo que tenia que decir, pero si alcanze a decir bastante, no creen? Siento mucho si voy a decepcionar a algunos de ustedes al cerrar mi periódico, pero tengo que aceptar la realidad. Agradesco mucho el tiempo en que pude publicar tantas cosas que para mi era muy importante decir, y yo se que muchos de ustedes estarán de acuerdo que hicimos mucho bien. Es muy triste que estos tiempos sean tan difíciles. Para ser honesta con ustedes, nuestros costos eran mas grandes que lo que entraba de dinero. Nececitabamos que mas gente nos pagara sus subscripciones a tiempo y necesitábamos también anuncios mas grandes y con mas regularidad. A fin de cuentras, resulto que no fue importante que a mucha gente le gustara mucho el peridodico, sino que la gente tuviera la voluntad de invertir su dinero en algo en lo que ellos tenían fe. Agradesco mucho a toda la gente que si se presento a ayudarnos en tantas maneras. Hubo muchos negocios que si nos apoyaron y tuvieron fe en nosotros y en los clientes que respondían a sus anuncios. Hubo mucha gente que compartió con nosotros sus conocimientos de fotografía, periodismo y asuntos de negocio a quien estaremos siempre agradecidos. Ray Flores de Flores Photography tuvo la paciencia de ensenarnos como usa la camara de 35 milímetros. José Luis Rodriguez nos enseno técnica de periodismo. Joe Medellin y sus emleados en San Antonio Press nos ensenaron también como preparar el periódico y tuvieron mucha paciencia con nosotros. n También, todos los empleados y amigos que nos ayudaron—cada uno en su propia manera, contribuyeron algo especial a lo que llego a ser el periódico. Luchamos contra obstáculos muy grandes y triunfamos en muchas maneras. Nosotros sabemos que si! El gallo nunca la hizo... En mi primer dia en mi casa para principiar el periódico, Richard me dejo instrucciones de que prac- ticara usando la camara. El gallo de mi vecina, que entro a mi cocina sin invitación podia haber sido mi primer noticia. Pero asuste tanto al animalito que volo hasta subirse a los gabinetes y termino bailando en el cortinero. Se cayo en un florero de cristal y tumbo una hoya con harina para pancakes que desparramo por toda la cocina, quemándose también en la estufa. Por fin, se fue a esconder detras del bote de la harina. Todo este tiempo yo andaba detras de el con la camara, y si le tome buenos retratos, pero nunca los publique en El Uvalde Times. Menciono esto para acordarme a mi misma que a pesar de todos mis problemas también pase ratos muy divertidos y de gran felicidad. No cambiaría todas mis experiencias y satisfacciones que me trajo este negocio por nada en el mundo. Richard me escuchara... Va a ser muy difícil el ya no tener esta columna. Voy a tener que escribir una cada semana y mi esposo Richard la va a tener que leer cada jueves. Cuando menos con el dire lo que tengo que decir. Tengo mucho terminar en mi casa... Entre tantas cosas que tengo pendientes en mi casa están varios materiales de costura que me están esperando por varios anos. Esta un sueter que empeze a tejer cuando viví en Espana con Ricardo hace unos once anos, voy a darle lustre a mis pisos y darle un shampoo a la alfombra y las ventanas también necesitan una lavada... como ven tengo mucho en que ocuparme, y ya era tiempo! This I Have To Say! By Olga Munoz Rodriquez I’m really leaving... Well...I didn’t finish saying all I has to say, but I did get to say a lot didn’t I? I am really sorry if I am going to dissappoint some of you by closing my newspaper, but I must be realistic. I am grateful for the time I was able to print what I felt had to be said, and I know many of you will admit that we did some good. Its too bad that times are so difficult these days. To be honest with you, our costs were exceeding our income. We needed a lot more people paying their subscriptions on time and we needed some larger advertisers on a regular basis. In the long run, it turned out that it wasn’t important that a lot of people liked our paper, but rather how much people were willing to invest in something they believed in. I am grateful for so many people that did come through and helped us out in so many ways. There were also a lot of businesses that did support us and had faith in us and in those customers that responded to their advertisements. They were so many people who shared their knowledge about photography, layout and business procedures to which we will always be grateful. Ray Flores of Flores Photography had the patience to teach us how to use a 35 milimeter camera. Jose Luis Rodriquez taught us some journalism techinques and layout. Joe Medellin and his employees at San Antonio Press taught us a lot about layout and had a lot of patience with us. All the employees we had—each in their own way, contributed something special to the newspaper and made it what it became to be. We battled against great odds and we succeeded in so many ways. I know we did! Ill finish some things up... I ve got some material I’ve had for several years I never got to sew, and there’s that sweater I started knitting when I was in Spain with Richard about eleven years ago, I haven’t waxed the floors or shampooed the carpet in ages, my windows need washing and I haven’t baked in several months... 1 il really have enough to keep me busy! 329 S.
