Private First Class Noe Saldaña is home on a thirty day leave from the Ü. S. Army. Noe attended Uvalde High School before joining the Army on Feb. 6, 1978. '
Noe is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Noe A. SaldaTia who reside on I t. Clark Rd., Uvalde Texas.

Everette F. Baker, Veterinary Edpidemio-logist from the Communicable Center in
Georgia, visited Uvalde during the past week and provided technical assistance to personnel of Public Health Region 9. Dr. Baker met with the Regional staff and discussed the rabies outbreak and steps which should be taken to break the chain of infection within the dog popu-
lation in Eagle Pass.

As of June 22, 1979 some 14 dogs have been identified as having rabies causing 54 persons to undergo rabies post-exposure injections. It is expected that several more dogs will become ill with this fatal disease before the epidemic is controlled. Dr. Baker noted “it has been about 20 days since the last rabies case in Eagle Pass;
however, a period of a-bout six months must pass before we can breathe easy in these kinds of outbreaks”.
Public Health Region 9 has been involved with the outbreak in Eagle Pass since the first case was identified in a dog in March. Technical assistance and life-saving vaccines have been provided to officials in the Border city.

Thursday, June 21, 1979 at 5:40 p.m. A 1978 yellow Chevy pick-up pulling a stock trailer driven by Willard B. Smith of Del Rio was traveling north on Park St. when the stock trailer broke free and traveled north passing the intersection of Pecos and Park St. It then proceeded to leave the roadway traveling on a N.W. direction through the yard of 1403 N. Park St. The stocktrailer came to a stop upon hitting a 1973 yellow oldsmobile owned by John Bradford of Uvalde that was properly parked. Smith was issued a ticket for failure to maintain control. No
injuries were reported.

The winners of the recent “Design an Emblem” contest were announced by Marcia Larsen, Executive Director of the Kidney Foundation of South Texas. The winning design, showing a jaL apeno pepper wearing a sombrero standing next to a pot of chili was submitted by 9 year old David Donat of Floresville. The emblem will be used to publicize the 2nd
annual Chili-Fest, an event conducted to raise funds for the Kidney Foundation. David will receive a 10 speed bicycle provided by the Xerox Corporation’s Community Involvement Team and will also be one of the judges at the Chili-Fest.

El Sr. Jose Maria Ibarra falleció a la edad de 88 anos, el 19 de Junio 1979 (martes) a los 8:55 a.m. en el Hospital Memorial de Uvalde. El había nacido en Canela Coah, Mexico el 18 de Septimbre 1890. El Sr. Ibarra residía en 743 South Getty Street en Uvalde.

Main and 100 Wood St. A 1965 brown Chevy driven Ricardo Flores Uvalde and a 1969 blue Ford driven by Charles Speer Jr., of Uvalde were both traveling west on E. Main St. when Flores stopped for a red light and Speer failed to stop, sliding sideways into the street and striking Ricardo Flores. No injuries were reported.
