Sometimes I feel like a nut....
Sometimes I feel like a nut and sometimes I don’t. This borrowed phrase sums up the update I want to give of El Uvalde 1 imes ai ims time. I felt like a nut when I discovered the wrong date on the front page of my last issue. Couldn’t blame that on anyone else, it was plain oF Olga that did it!
1 don’t feel like a nut when our readers call just to say they enjoy our newspaper very much. When subscribers write or call long distance to say they enjoy this or that article in the paper. When we see our subscription list grow and grow. Thanks, Uvalde, for the opportunity you’ve given us. We are only one and a halt yArs old. but we «are very much alive and kicking!
Let’s Go To The Festival....
The weather looks great and the anticipation of the Cactus Jack Festival couldn’t be better. A contestant for the Jalapeno Eating Contest from Del Rio called Chamber of Commerce V-P Don Weber to say he was cut to win the Texas Championship and callenged Uvalde’s jalapeno amateurs. I want Uvalde to win state, so brave Uvaldeans, let’s show the border town visitor who his up against. Entry fee is only $2 and the contest will take place at 4 p.m. Look for the El Uvalde Times staff to register any time after 1:30 p.m. Oh and about the Bean Throw—its a new and exciting contest. Come and find out what its all about Entry fee is only $1. First prize for both contests is $10 plus a lot of recognition!
Rabies Is For Real!
Many of us are disbelievers until we see it face cause 53 persons there have contacted rabies, a little girl died of rabies and a boy is fighting for his life, a victim of a rabied dog. There have been four confirmed cases of rabies here in the past six months, but the reality in Eagle Pass makes any town in the area a possibility of the same situation. Please, vaccinate your pets today!
A veces Si y Aveces No..
A veces me siento muy safada y a veces no. Mas o menos asi dice un comerical, pero uso esta frase para reportar como va El Uvalde Times. Me quize reventar de coraje al ver que la fecha de nuestra ultima edición en la primera pagina decía Junio 7 1979 en vez de Junio 14, 1979 Eso no se lo pude cargar a nadie, fue simplemente OLga.
Pero no me siento tan inútil cuando nuestros lectores nos llaman a decimos lo mucho que les gusta el periódico, o cuando nuestros subscribientes nos escriben o llaman larga distancia para decir que les agrado algún articulo. Cuando vemos crecer la lista de subscribientes Gracias, Uvalde por la oportunidad que nos han brindado. Solamente tenemos un año y medio de vida—pero estamos muy VIVAS y llenas de animo!
Vamos Al Festival!
El tiempo se ve ideal y la anticipasion del Festival Cactus Jack no podría ser mejor. Un concursante para el Concurso de Comer Jalapeno de Del Rio llamo al Vice-presiden te de la Camara de Comercio Don Weber para decir que el piensa ganar el campeonato estatal y dice que le ganara a todos los aficionados de Uvalde. Yo quiero que Uvalde gane el titulo estatal, asi es que valientes de Uvalde, vamos a demostrarle quienes son los de Uvalde! El costo de entrar al concusrso es de $2 y tendrá lugar a las 4 p.m. Busque el personal de El Uvalde Times después para registrarse. Oh, y el Tiro de Frijoles es algo nuevo y exitante-Venga a ver de que se trata. La entrada es de $1. El primer premio es de $10, una camiseta del festival y mucha publicidad!

Support The Youth Program
Juvenile officer Howard Edwards is taking the
lead in calling a meeting to re-organize the ^^Uvalde Youth Organization. This proposed group could sponsor a well program youth center much needed here. There are many good, talented and able citizens that could direct such a program. The Uvalde City Council should seriously consider employing a full time Youth Director. (While I cherish historical sites muself, I believe more concern should be given to establish a youth program Jhan restoring the Opera House). I hope some of our city, county and school officials will attend the meeting. Its today, Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the Civic Center.
Muchos de nosotros somos muy incrédulos hasta que vemos la cosa cara a cara. Los residentes de Eagle Pass ahora creen (que la rabia es real) ya que allí 53 personas se han conta-jeado con la rabia, una niña murió a consecuencia de la enfermedad y otro niño lucha por su vida, victima de una mordida de un • perro enrabiado. En Uvalde se han confirmado cuatro casos de rabia en los últimos seis meses, pero la realidad en Eagle Pass hace a cualesquier cuidad de aalrededor una gran posibilidad de la misma situación? Por favor, * vacunen a sus animales.
Apoyen Al Programa Juvenil
El Oficial de Juveniles, Howard Edward a tomado el primer paso al llamar una junta para re-organizar la Organización para la Juventud de Uvalde. Este grupo propuesto podría patrocinar un programa bien organizado para recreación de los jovenes. Hay muchas personas con abilidad para dirijir este programa. El Concilio de la Cuidad debiera considerar seriamente el empleo de un Director de Juveniles permanente. (Aunque
