The current shortage problems are bad enough, but we must keep them from lasting for many years, especially if we all want gasoline and oil for
personal uses.

We must exhibit the the same national spirit that we displayed when President Kennedy announced the space program and placed Lyndon Johnson in charge of it. If the attitude of some of todays national leaders had prevailed then, we would still be trailing the Russian Sputnik, instead of having developed technologies that have made us the only country on earth to place men on the moon and caused us to lead the world in space exploration and technology.
Because I have full faith in our American system, I suggest that in this week which is the anniversary of our country’s founding, we must rededicate ourselves to the task of solving today’s pro-our
blems so that descendants will inherit a better, stronger and prouder nation.
We simply must become less dependent on foreign sources of oil. We are now importing more than 51 per cent of all the oil we use, and this year it is costing us over $61 billion, created on our has immensely to inflation and the same time seen fuel prices skyrocket due to factors completely beyond our control.
