Former Uvalde High School Valedectorian Now Attorney in Poland Merry Jane Chavez-Anderson is currently working in Warsaw, Poland as an attorney for the Hogan and Hartson Law Firm of Washington, D.C. Her main endeavor is writing contracts for American firms starting business projects in Poland. In addition to her work, she is studying Polish daily for an hour with a tutor. A very difficult language that is similar to Russian, she can now move around the city easily. Most of Warsaw was destroyed during World War II; the old part of the city was reconstructed from historical photographs. The remainder was rebuilt as grey, drab, block building by the Communists during their forty year occupation of the country. "The people are very friendly and hospitable," says Chavez-Anderson. She has traveled extensively to the shipyards in Gdansk and to the old city of Krakow where one of the oldest universities in Europe is located as well as Prague, capital of Czechoslovakia, and to Berlin, capital again of the unified East and West Germany. She is now vacationing in southern Poland with her husband, Brian Anderson. They are visiting Oswiecim (the Auchwitz Nazi concentration camp was located here) as well as hiking in the Tatra mountains near Zakopane on the southeastern Polish border. Call Ricardo Flores for information at 278-6885 after 5 p.m.
