Junior High Track Meet A total of seventeen schools fielded participants in the 1992 Uvalde Junior High Track Meet held at the Honey Bowl on Saturday, February 29. In the seventh grade girls division, Kerrville placed first with 120 1/2 points, Carrizo Springs placed second with 104 points, while Boerne finished third with 77 1/2. Uvalde placed 5th in the discus and 6th in the 200 meter hurdles. In the eighth grade girls Tennis Tournament Eleven schools were represented at the 1992 edition of the Annual Uvalde Junior High Tennis Tournament. In the combined team standings, the Uvalde Maroon team outdistanced the competition to finish in first place. Kerrville placed second with Knippa finishing third. Uvalde’s White team came in fifth place with the Uvalde Grey coming in eigth. Results in individual competition were as follows: 7th Grade Girls Singles: Amanda Jucknies of Knippa placed 1st, defeating Kayel Keeney of Knippa. Winning the division was Kerrville with 132 points, second was Boerne with 98 1/2 points, and third was Carrizo Springs with 86 points. Christina Suarez of Uvalde won 1st place in the 3200 meter run. Uvalde took top honors in the team competition for seventh grade boys. Finishing 1st individually for Uvalde was Paul Heaton in the 100 meter hurdles, 200 meter hurdles and the long Phillips and Cindy Sebek of Kerrville took top honors by defeating Brandi Kring and Crystal Cox of Sabinal. Uvalde’s Tania Leskover and Sally Hiler placed 3rd with Dora Ramon and Rocío Gomez placing 4th. 7th Grade Boys Singles: Uvalde’s Brent Laffere took top honors by defeating Jeff Neighbors of Kerrville. 7th Grade Boys Doubles: Uvalde’s Kevin Tannahill and Roland Ramirez placed 1st by winning a battle over Jimmy Losoya and Luis Estrada of Uvalde. Placing 4th was Adam Matthys and Chris Philman of Uvalde. 8th Grade Girls Singles: jump. Also claiming 1st was Will McKinney in the shot put and discus. Rounding out the team standings was 2nd place Kerrville and 3rd place Del Rio. In the eighth grade boys division, Uvalde came in eighth place with 23 points. Kerrville claimed top honors with 106 points, with Del Rio finishing second with 74 1/2 points and Boerne finishing third with 69 points. 400 meter dash, Rachel Caballero, 8th grade Kristin Stehling of Kerrville took 1st place over 2nd place Aime Hopper of Uvalde. 8th Grade Girls Doubles: Anne Santos and Jennifer Ellinger of Uvalde finished 1st by defeating Shannon Schulgan and SaphroniaShelton of Kerrville.
