There will be no lay offs of teacher aides or custodians at Uvalde schools after all. At a meeting held on August 'll which also included a public hearing on the proposed buget, several citizens spoke against the boards announced intention to reduce spending by terminating the lowest paid employees in the district.
Roy Luevano read from a prepared statement (see Page 2) and urged the board not to dismiss the aides since doing so would affect the children’s education. Cecilia Acosta resides in Villa Park, Illinois and Bertha Garza lives in Uvalde. Another sister Gloria Valdez lives in Galeta, California and his brother Carlos Ruiz is a resident of Gume, Illinois. Other Uvalde relatives include his two half brothers, Antonio and Elizaldo Martinez and his step mother, Mrs. Anita Ruiz and step brother Alberto Ruiz. His wife Nancy is a native of Illinois and they have two children, Marc 16 and Rebecca 14. Gilbert gives great credit to his wife’s support during the development of his
