Page 8 EL UVALDE TIMES April 11, 1992 High School Parents & Teachers Organize Parents and teachers at Uvalde High School met on March 17 to elect officers for a new group called Parents Organized for Education (POE), accoding to Lynda Langford, UHS teacher. Reyes Lopez was elected president; Arturo Juarez, vice-president; Betty Padilla, secretary/treasurer. Langford will serve as the school representative. “The group wants to work on solving school problems, not just on moneymaking projects,” Langford said. “At the last meeting, we discussed, among other things, the Presidential Fitness Awards because we have students who are eligible” All UHS parents are encouraged to attend the next meeting. School Board... from Page 1 in the coming school year. Informational items discussed included visitors attendance during Texas Public Schools Week which was 3,231. A site-based decision making report was discussed that established site-based decision making as a process for decentralizing decisions in order to improve the educational outcomes at every school campus. The enrollment report indicated that attendance has climbed from 4,953 on March 18, 1991 to 5,103 on March 13,1992 throughout the district. The board also approved the district’s financial operation for the month of March 1992, the 1992-93 transfer student tuition rate of $600per student, and instructional programs relative to human growth and development, sexuality, and family living. Student and athletic insurance for 1992-93 and 1992 summer school plans were also approved by the board. Identification process for the Gifted Program was tabled by the board. The board approved action to advertise for bids for cafeteria products, petroleum products and school furniture. It also approved the 1992-93 school calendar and curriculum changes for 1992-93 which included eliminating High School courses Correlated Language Arts I, II, III, Fundamentals of Math, and Consumer Math. Resignations were accepted by the board from High School personnel Angela Davis,Business Teacher, Sylvia Bradshaw, Special Education, N.E. Amos, Englishjo Ann Jones, Math, Cynthia Vara, Math/Computer Science; Karen Baen, Reading Improvement, Junior High School; Ann Marie Boxwell, Special Education, Middle School; Clarence Broecker, Director, Deaf Education; and at Robb Elementary, Toni Hull, 4th grade teacher, Anne Rosemier, 4th grade teacher, and Sally McBee, principal. Contracts were renewed by the board for Clay Baulch, Junior High School Math teacher; James D.
