Si hubiese trabajado diligentemente en un libro y solamente necesitaba unos meses para las ultimas paginas, yo gustosamente seguiría sosteniéndolo, pero ahora empiezo a sentir que esta novela es solamente una excusa para no trabajar. El problema es que el es muy amable, divertido y no me puedo convencerme de decirle que tenemos que terminar. UVALDE— Thirty-eight new members were initiated into Eta Beta Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa National Honorary Scholastic Fraternity at Southwest Texas Junior College on January 31, 1980. Phi Theta Kappa is a national junior college honor society organized to promote scholarship, develop leadership and cultivate fellowship in superior students. Requirements for membership in PTK are a 3.5 grade point average after at least one semester of study during which the student must take a course load of at least 15 semester hours. Guest speaker for the ceremony was Dr. Jimmy Goodson, vice-president of SWTJC. He spoke to the students about the effectiveness of student participation in the governmental process. Approximately 115 people attended the ceremony and reception that followed, which were held in the Uvalde Civic Center. Cedar Torres Paul Rich, candidate for the Democratic nomination to Congress, 23rd District, announced the opening of his campaign headquarters in Laredo. The opening ceremony will be held at headquarters location at 3810 San Bernardo at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, February 15. Rich’s Bexar County Headquarters at 4037 Commercial Street has been opened for several weeks. The 23rd Congressional District extends from the north-eastern section of San Antonio south to Laredo and west to Eagle Pass. Call El Uvalde Times at 278-3616 Robaba criaturas Water Safety Instructors Certified UVALDE—Eight Southwest Texas Junior College students completed the Red Cross certification for Water Safety Instructor on February 7, 1980. Taught by Mrs. Rose Koehl of SWTJC, the classes were held in the SWTJC pool. The course requires 45 hours of instruction. To qualify for WSI, a student must demonstrate expertise in ten different strokes— the American crawl, breaststroke, sides-stroke, elementary back-stroke, back crawl, inverted sidestroke and over-arm sidestroke — as well as in lifesaving techniques. In addition, the group student taught beginning swimmers from Uvalde Junior High School. Students completing the course were Judy Canales, Isa Ibarra, Sheila Maner and Barbara Newlan.
