Certainly their plight casts a pall over all of us, and each of us will want to pray for their safety and for the wise leadership of our President. We can all be thankful that there is peace on earth, as far as military action is concerned. We have sought other means to bring the leaders of Iran to their senses, and to get them to join every other country in respecting the international law that makes every government responsible for the safety of the people and property of other nations assigned to diplomatic duties. PROBLEMS ARE CHALLENGES The national government, and indeed every citizen, are beset by many problems, yet it would seem useful to look at them as challenges. Our national energy program is still being shaped, but much has already been done. The Congress has committed large sums to the goal I have repeatedly stressed -we must increase our domestic energy supply, so that in the future we need not be troubled by Khomeinis of any nation that would deny us energy sources. I also say again that windfall profits legislation must be developed to encourage expansion of oil and gas resources. We must expand our use of domestic coal, partly by relaxing some of our enviromental requirements and partly by enacting coal slurry pipeline legislation which I sponsored. We must know what energy the elements can provide by harnessing the wind, sun, and water and by developing synthetic fuels. We can all benefit if new jobs are created, for unemployment remains a challenge to all of us. NATION SECOND TO NONE I do not find it unseemly in the holiday season to renew my pledge to do all I can to keep our Nation second to none. In a military sense, that determination is supported by our continued national policy that we seek to dominate no people or no country in the world. We want strength to insure that others who might consider aggressive action recognize our defense power. I shall be reporting on details of new military planning for rapid deployment of forces if needs arise, but for now, I only reiterate conf on pg 14 de 1969 a 1975. Igualmente reconoció a los contratistas que llevaron acabo el trabajo, es especial al Sr. Juan Ayala que dirijio la construcción y quien estuvo presente durante la dedicación. Departe de El Uvalde Times felicitamos al Pastor Martinez y a toda sus congregación por el dedicado esfuerzo en lograr ese hermoso templo que no solo sera un orgullo para ustedes pero igualmente para toda la ciudad de Uvalde. Two new members were seated on the Board of Directors of the Community Council of Southwest Texas, Inc. last Tuesday, December 11. Mr. David Luna, Commissioner from Kinney County was appointed an alternate for Judge Albert Postell. Mr. Benito Perez was appointed to represent the City of Crystal City. The meeting was held at the Reading Room of the Uvalde Civic Center and Vice-Chairman Gilbert Torres called the meeting to order. Ms. Mary Sanchez led the Board in prayer. The Energy Crisis Assistance Program (E.C.A.P.) and Crisis Intervention Program (C.T.P.) totaling $120,000 to serve the elderly, poor and needy in Uvalde, Kinney, Real, Zavala, Vai Verde, Maverick and Edwards County were approved by the Board. A financial report was presented by Rudy Musquiz, Comptroller. He presented a Ingthy report on the financial status of the various programs. Josué Garza, Executive Director of the Community Council informed the Board that the Crisi the Borard that the Crisis Programs are being implemented in Uvalde, Kinney, Real and Zavala County, with satellite offices in Edwards, Maverick and Vai Verde County. Other recent developments were related to the Board.
