February 8, 1992 Page 24 EL UVALDE TIMES Girl Scouts learning values, helping create a very society Girl Scout Troop 128, led by Troop Leader Pat Flores and assistant Belinda Gonzales, had their Bridging Ceremony in December. The Bridging Ceremony was held in honor of the Brownies bridging to Juniors and to be recognized and welcomed into the next level of Girl Scouting. The Bridge is a symbol of crossing over. The girls rededicated themselves by renewing the Girl Scout Promise and Law. They each lit a candle as they recited the Girl Scout Law. The girls are made aware of their important commitment to the values and ideals of the Girl Scout Movement. They sang “On My Honor” and crossed the bridge with their Troop Leader, Pat Flores, leading them across. They each received the Girl Scout Pin, Brownie Girl Scout Wings and Bridging Patch to show they have completed the brownie level. The girls will be special guests at the Teach The Children Circus on March 12. Says Pat Flores, “We are a very active troop with a servant’s heart. We enjoy helping the elderly and less fortunate. I am blessed with 10 dedicated young girls and involved, supportive parents. If we can work with these girls at this young age, by showing them how to serve their community and improve the world around us, we will have developed in them values that will be in their hearts for the rest of their lives. I started this troop because of our three daughters. My husband, Tommy, and I are very involved in the community because we love to help people. We come from families that always helped others in need. Our daughters have always helped us in whatever we were involved. I never was a Girl Scout because there was no troop in my heighborhood in San Antonio. I wanted to give my girls the opportunity I didn’t have. I want them to spend quality time with other girls their age. I’m very happy to have made this decision and look forward to working with these girls as they grow up to be young ladies. The parents are a vital part, too. They are so encouragement! We are working toward the same goals, and they are as dedicated as the girls. All these parents work, so I keep that in mind when making plans. I also work full-time at our restaurant and my husband is very supportive, glad to see how the troop has advanced over the past three years. Even grandparents have become involved in our functions and I am very grateful to them.” “In this time of uncertainties of the future of our children, it is important to work with them. We have to invest time in their lives now because their future will reflect what we, as adults, taught them in their childhood years. If we teach our children today to be compassionate towards our fellow man, with God’s help, the world will be a better place for our future generations.” ______________________________ nSharing together as a family at any age means talking together.....each can gain refreshment and inner warmth in the family circle. ” it Troop 28 Bridging Ceremony.
