Rodriquez Happy Eighties! Since 1980 marks the beginning of a new decade, let me go ahead and wish the best for all the coming ten years. Frankly, I am not sure that we are all that ready to cope with all the problems ahead, but let’s all do our share to make our world more appreciative of our natural resources and take care of everything we have. Let’s not be as wasteful as we were in 1970 and let’s love one another a little bit more. Let us Americans show the restless masses of Iran that peace prevails here and that we are praying for the tranquility their country seems to need so much. Let us pray that we will not see another war in 1980. Being a more united country will help us through the many crisis that may lie ahead. God bless all of you during the coming year! Regarding the other incident, it involved a parent’s misunderstanding about when parents and their little children are welcomed at school parties. Again, it was a matter of communicating and in my opinion both sides could have been more understanding with each other. Community relations between the school district and parents seem to be improving a lot since the walkout in 1970, and all of us should make every effort to help our children be happy in school and work together to educate our children. Help control rabies... Ya que la llegada de 1980 marca el empiezo de una nueva decada de anos, permítanme de una vez desearles lo mejor para los próximos diez anos. Francamente no estoy muy segura de que nosotros estamos listos para enfrentarnos a los problemas que esten por delante, pero que tal si todos hacemos lo que este de nuestra parte para hacer del nuestro un mundo mas agradecido con nuestros recursos naturales y cuidar todo lo que tenemos. No vallamos a ser tan desperdiciantes como lo fuimos en los setentas y vamos a querernos mas unos a los otros. Vamos nosotros como Americanos a demostrarles al gentío descontrolado de Iran que la paz reina en nuestro pais y que rezamos por esa tranquilidad que kan parece necesitar tanto. Rezemos para que no tengamos que ver otra guerra en 1980. El ser un pais unido nos ayudara a sobrevivir las muchas crisis que talvez esten por delante. Que Dios los bendiga mucho durante el ano nuevo! Pronto empezara el Proyecto de Presas.. Gracias a unos ciudadanos muy preocupados .por la seguridad de nuestro condado y ciudad de Uvalde, ese proyecto de construir las presas que detendrán el agua en el Rio Leona y prevendrán las inundaciones, el proyecto esta mas cerquita de ser una realidad que nunca antes. El proyecto cubre una area muy grande y la aplicación para dinero federal es muy complicada. Mucha gente pensaba que era un proyecto mucho muy grande para llegar a ser una realidad. Pero paso a paso y con la ayuda de mucha gente en diferentes maneras, los derechos a los terrenos necesarios fueron obtenidos, se requirió la dedicación de Bob Price, Howard Langford y muchos oficiales de la ciudad y el condado, asi como la generosidad de los propietarios de terrenos quienes dieron sus derechos a precios muy razonables para lograr el paso del proyecto mas difícil. Gracias a todos los que han ayudado a lograr la seguridad de de todos nosotros. La semana pasada me informaron de dos incidentes en los cuales unos padres de familia se vieron muy fustra-dos con maestras y oficiales escolares. Ambos eventos tenían sus méritos y yo hice lo que pude para investigarlos y aconsejar a los padres. Uno tenia que ver con la disciplina de un alumno que me parecía muy severa considerando que había cometido su primer ofensa y aparte de eso era un alumno excelente en sus grados y su comportamiento. No dire mas por ahora con la esperanza que el silencio ayudara a remediar este caso pero el consejo que sobresale del asutno es este: Padres de familia, por favor comuniqúense con los profesores de sus ñiños o con los administradores escolares cuando un problema surja. Demuéstrele a sus hijos y a los directores de las escuelas que a usted le interesa y desea coperar con ellos. Si usted necesita un interprete, lleva a un amigo, o pida a la escuela que le proporcione uno. La mayoría de los oficiales están listo para ayudarle en esto. Sobre el otro incidente, envolvía a una mama que mal entendió cuando los padres y sus ñiños pequenitos son bienvenidos a los “Parties” escolares. Otra vez, fue una falta de comunicación y en mi opinion ambos partidos podían haber sido mas comprensivos unos con los otros. Las relaciones de nuestra comunidad entre el distrito escolar y los padres parece que han mejorado desde la huelga de los estudiantes en 1970, y todos debemos de hacer el esfuerzo de ayudar a que nuestros ñiños esten contentos en la escuela y trabajar juntos para educarlos. Cuidado con la rabia! Thanks to some very concerned citizens, the Leona River Watershed Project is closer to becoming a reality than ever before. The job encompasses a lot of area a lot of planning and a lot of government red tape. A lot of people believe it was too big of a project to ever become a reality. But one step at a time and with a lot of people working in various ways the necessary easements have been acquired. It took the dedication of Bob Price, Howard Langford and all our city and county officials, and the generosity of all the landowners gave easements at a very reasonable cost to bring the project through its most difficult stages. Thanks to all of you for paving the way for the safety of all of us living in Uvalde. Although we are in the middle of winter, rabies is still very much a problem. Help the State Department of Public Health by reporting animales suspected of having rabies, especially rabid skunks. Last week I was informed of two incidents in which parents became very frustrated with teachers and school officials. Both of them had their merits and I did what I could do to investigate the incidents and advise the parents. One involved the discipline of a student which I believe had been very severely imposed on a student who was a first time offender and otherwise had an excellent academic and behaviour record. I will say no further in hopes that the matter will soon be resolved, but one advise comes on very strong from this case: Parents, please communicate with your child’s teacher and principals whenever a problem arises.
