Laverne Rodriguez Wins Miss Majorette of Texas; Advances To National Finals SAN ANTONIO-Laverne Rodriguez daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Faustino Rodriguez of 550 Diaz St was named Miss Majorette of Texas at the 1979 NBTA Texas Twirling Championships and Miss Majorette of America State Preliminary. Held at the Virgil T. Blossom Atheletic Center last weekend, the event gathered twirling hopefuls of all ages from throughout the state. Laverne competed with seventeen other twirlers for the coveted title which will now take her to Notre Dame University where she will participate in the Miss Majorette of America next July 24-28. Laverne obtained her victory by scoring highly in several im- portant categones m the 17-20 age group. She placed First in the Intermediate Solo; First Place in the Intermediate T-Strut, First Place in the overall T-Strut; and Second Place in the Basic Strut.
