Militantes Chicanos in vitados a Iran
DALLAS, Texas (Especial)-Un grupo de 49 1 Activistas progresistas ’ ’ incluyendo al líder de los Boinas Cafe, Juan Perez partió a Iran a fin de comenzar un “intenso dialogo” con los militantes que mantienen a 50 rehenes en la capital de Iran.
El viaje, que fue hecho por invitación de los militantes iraníes, lo organizo el Comité para La Solución de la Crisis Americana-Irani, el mismo grupo que auspicio la visita de los clérigos a los rehenes durante la Navidad.
La visita fue anunciada el martes en la tarde en conferencias de prensa simultaneas en Nueva York y en Dallas.

STRESS AND ILLNESS
Dear Dr. Esse: I’m 44, have an ulcer and my doctor says it’s a stress illness. What’s all this talk about stress? Is there any basis for it? — Mr. F.
Dear Mr. F.: There’s more to it than many realize. The focus on stress and illness became
concentrated about 30
years ago when H. Selye, M.D., first expanded his theories about stress.
Since then there seems to be no question that stress is an important factor in causing hypertension, heart disease, ulcer, cancer and emotional illness.
What is stress? It is different things for different people. Selye defined it as “the nonspecific response of the body to any demand.” Reaction to harmful stimuli is first manifested by an “alarm reaction” which calls the body’s resources into action; this is followed by a stage of resistance, an increase in the defenses against the stressor, and then a stage of exhaustion resulting in disease or death.
Selye called this response the “general adaptation syndrome.” The disorders arising from it (ulcer, hypertension, etc.) he called diseases of adaptation. So it’s important how the individual responds to his stresses; to the pituitaryadrenal reactions.
It’s important to know that even pleasurable experiences may be powerful stressors—may produce a greater secretion of epinephrine or hydrocortisone; as if the experience were bad: like losing, as in a divorce, as compared with the pleasures of marriage.
In any case, we must learn to master various ways to deal with stress. Some of us are easygoing by nature, others tense and open to stress. But we can't escape it, whatever its form.
We are being followed by a crowd of old problems: Inflation, gas shortages, trouble in Iran, and trouble at home! It feels like somebody dumped a truckful of garbage on us. But then garbage is a part of life. It's the inevitable result of leftovers from the good life. I remember what Jack Benny said when he received an award for something he had done. He said, “I don’t deserve this. But I have arthritis and I don’t deserve that either.” It seems we are recipients of many things we don’t deserve, good and bad!
We want unlimited prosperity without inflation. We want high wages without high prices. We want more power without more responsibility. Maybe we don't deserve either, but we got ’em. Our major problem isn't the high price of living, but the high price of wanting!
But human nature is not so easily changed. Ever since Adam and Eve craved the apple in the garden of Eden, man has spent his days wanting more than he could handle. And like the poor bumbling idiots of Paradise, we wind up hiding in the bushes of ignorance, blaming everybody but ourselves, including God.
If we could only see our present problems in the same light as our present blessings—a part of life-and deal with them accordingly, we might be able to turn our curses into blessings, our problems into pluses and our failures into successes. Jesus brought forth Easter lilies from the cruel cross of death. The Crucifixion and the Resurrection are two sides of the same coin of life.
Our empty gas tanks might just become the receptacles for some richer blessings of life.
I know this sounds heavy, but weights keep things from scattering in the wind.

CREATIVE PATCHING - New approach to darning flimsy material, such as organdy curtains! Back the hole with white paper and darn over it on the machine. Next time the material is washed, the paper will disappear.
THE GREAT DIVIDE - A dab of this and a dab of that can be reheated very efficiently in one pan if you utilize your skillet, either regular or electric. A little crushed aluminum foil provides the dividers so the juices don’t mingle.
TO TOP IT OFF — That less-than-fresh bread can be made into delicious croutons while you are waiting for dinner to cook! Cut crustless bread into one-half-inch cubes, toss in butter and brown in 350-degree F. oven for 10 minutes before seasoning with your favorite herbs and spices.
KEY TO SUCCESS — When kept out of your car by a frozen lock, give it a quick thaw by heating the end of the key with matches before inserting it into the lock. Several attempts may have to be made but it will eventually melt the ice.
SEAM SAVVY — You can reinforce the underarm stress points of a sleeve by stitching seam binding into the seam. Makes a much stronger seam!
CAPTAIN HOOK — Say goodbye to burned hands and arms caused by reaching for a pan in the back of the oven. Salvage a long-handled picnic fork and let the family handyman bend down the tines to make a great “hook” for pulling out hot pans.
TOBACCO ROAD — For an “old pine” furniture finish, consider the old-timers’ tobacco stain. Break a plug of tobacco into a glass jar and add 2 cups of ammonia. Replace the lid and let “ferment” for 5 to 7 days, then take outdoors, remove lid and let fumes evaporate for several hours. Strain the stain before applying to your furniture. For a lighter stain, wipe off surplus immediately.
