You can say even the chickens come to city hall. At last Tuesday’s Uvalde Citv Council meeting pictures and tape recordings ot some noisy chickens were brought before the council by Charles Newman who requested some alleviation. A petition signed by other neighbors and was also presented.
After considerable discussion Mayor Cain referred the matter to City Attorney Phil Hughes. According to Hughes, the ordinance that the city has pertaining to chickens is not being violated by Newman’s neighbor since the chickens are not being raised for commercial purposes. The only recourse Newman has, Hughes stated was to file a complaint under the city’s noise and nuisance ordinance or a civil suit in District Court.
Juan Zavala appeared before the council on a subsequent visit regarding the trash problem on the strip of road between Hwy 83 and Cargile St, this time reauesting that the city close the area to prevent people from using it as a dump. According to Zavala to place looked like a second dump and was a health hazard since very near Elementary

This I Have To Say

I suppose one day Ill have to write a book about all thecrazy happenings of a self-made “journalist-housewife-mo ther-and	meddling
citizen”. It’s been a long time since that first day I began my newspaper and tried to photograph my neighbor’s rooster that ventured to fly all over my kitchen cabinets. It was the first time I held a camera and I had a nervous subject before me.... but it all has worked out after all.
Since this column ventures into a documentary of how El Times develops, I must state that this week I learned to develop my own pictures and its very exciting. Not only that I have the good fortune of having five new helpers who have the same dedication and ideals that I have for the newspaper business. Leonor Hernandez and Rosa Miranda are my new secretaries-photographers and everything else there is a title for in this business. Rose Mary Tafolla is fast becoming an excellent photographer and Rene Vasquez is delivering our newspaper to the stores. Gilbert Torres is our best public relations man and a tremendous source of inspiration. Thanks a lot to

hace mucho tiempo desde aquel dia que empe-ze mi periódico cuando entro el gallo de mi vecina y volo sobre mis gavinetes de la cocina y por primera vez detuve una camara en mis manos.... pero todo ha salido bien después de todo.
Como esta columna sirve para documentar el desarrollo de El Uvalde Times, tengo que decirles que esta semana aprendí a revelar mis propias fotografías y para mi es algo especial. No solamente eso, tengo la buena fortuna de contar ahora con cinco nuevos asistentes que tienen el mismo gusto y animo que yo para este periódico. Uvalde Brochure Debuts In Dallas Vacation Show
“Over 8,000 Uvalde brochures were given away at the Southwest Sports and Vacation Show last week in Dallas,” according to Don Weber executive vice president of the Uvalde Chamber of Commerce. The show lasted for eight days and was held in the Dallas Convention Center.
Other representatives from Uvalde who worked the show other than Weber included Bill Mitchell, W. David Low and Leo Tumba-rello.
Uvalde’s new travel ex-ibit and brochures will be taken to the South Texas Outdoor Living and Vacation Show to be held in Corpus
Christi later this month. Next year the exibit will be displayed at the Houston and San Antonio Shows which were scheduled too early for Uvalde to participate in this year.
