El Fronterizo. Periódico de Combate
Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, México
1926-01-09
Weekly, Spanish-language newspaper published in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, México by José García Roel (1882-1949). The publication’s subtitle “Periódico de Combate,” translates to “Combat Newspaper.” The paper covered local news for Nuevo Laredo and offered editorials, politics, advertisements, and a literary section. Many advertisements featured businesses from the neighboring city of Laredo, Texas. Roel, Mexican educator, journalist, and self-taught printer originally established El Fronterizo during the Mexican Revolution and used the paper to criticize the violence of the uprising. In 1913, after his print shop and home were destroyed during the war, he moved his family to Texas and resumed publication.
