Weekly, English and Spanish-language, publication established in San Diego, Texas (Duval County) by F. de P. Gonzalez. The newspaper proclaimed itself as the official organ of Duval County and of the City of San Diego. Established in 1888, the newspaper covered local, national, and world news. La Libertad was sold on both sides of the border (per separate annual subscription price for Mexican citizens). Prior to La Libertad, Gonzalez founded El Eco Liberal in 1882, the first newspaper in Duval County. La Libertad contained a literary section that included poetry and included paid advertisements.
